Pattern Tester Call Out

*** APPLICATION NOW CLOSED ***

Check back soon for release dates.

Hello sewing friends!

My next pattern is almost ready to release and I’m looking for your help. Read on for more details.

Say hello to the Forest Coat. This is my first venture into kids patterns and boy has it been an adventure. This coat is part of an exciting collaboration with my friend Annie of Bound Co, a textile designer of the most beautiful quilting fabrics and quilting patterns so this, my fellow makers, is a unisex quilted kid’s coat, ranging from ages 1 - 10.

Big and cosy in shape, this coat pattern is aimed at beginner-intermediate sewers and has the potential to be reversible! The garment itself is a very simple make while the binding pushes it a little more towards intermediate but there will be clear instructions provided along the way.

It is fully bound with a zip to close and an optional detachable hood. The hood even has some sneaky ears inside for a bit of extra fun.

You will be required to quilt your fabric before making the coat, which is really very easy but instructions for this will be included. All seams and edges are fully bound, though you can skip some of that if it’s too tricky. If binding is new to you, you’ll be an expert after this, I’ll show you how. Great chance to learn a new sewing skill!

This is it with the hood detatched.

I’m looking for a group of testers willing to complete this coat by October 30th. It took me a full weekend to make but give yourself some extra time to allow for quilting and binding. I will post you out a printed copy of the pattern, a code for a free future pattern release from WDS and obviously you will receive the fully finished digital download of the final Forest Coat pattern once it goes to market. My hope for the future is to be able to offer makers payment to test for me but since I am only starting and don’t have the funds available just yet, hopefully this project will get me one step closer. But for now, please know that I’m very grateful to anyone who is willing to help as a tester since I truly understand that these things take time and cost money to do. I would always encourage testers to use what they already have in their stash as a way to reduce any costs of making and only to request being a tester if it really is a garment you’d love to make.

Once I have my group of testers selected, I’ll contact you directly for an address to send your pattern to. You will also be provided the digital PDF but my hope is that by posting you the printed version, it will at least save you the effort of printing and sticking!

Communication will be via Instagram direct messaging or email if you don’t have an Instagram account.

You are under no obligation to post any progress shots or images of the finished garment on social media but of course if you would like to share, that would be extra helpful and I would be delighted if you could share using the hashtag #WDSforestcoat so I can see all your wonderful makes. Just hold off until I give the go ahead, we don’t want to give away too much before the release!

If you have read this far and you think you’re still interested, please click the 'Apply Now' button where you will be directed to fill in the application form.

I can't wait to get this pattern out into the sewing world and I'm super excited to have you as part of it!

Happy sewing!
